About Hearts — ❤️ Dodge the hearts
Hearts is the strategic trick-taking classic where the goal is to score as few points as possible. Every heart costs you a point and the queen of spades stings for thirteen, so smart players duck and dump the danger cards on rivals. The bold can even shoot the moon by taking every penalty card to flip the score.
How to play Hearts
- Pass three cards to an opponent at the start of each hand
- Follow the led suit if you can, or play off-suit to dump penalty cards
- Avoid winning tricks with hearts or the queen of spades to keep points low
Tips & strategy
- Void a suit early so you can safely discard hearts and the queen of spades
- Try to pass high spades and hearts unless you are attempting to shoot the moon
- Track the queen of spades carefully, since eating it swings the whole hand
FAQ
- What does shooting the moon mean?
- If you take all thirteen hearts and the queen of spades in one hand, you score zero and every opponent takes 26 points instead.
- Why is the queen of spades so important?
- She is worth 13 penalty points, more than all the hearts combined, so avoiding or offloading her is a top priority.
